The Lizard Countryside Partnership is a concept! An idea for a more sustainable Lizard, socially, economically and environmentally – where the Lizard’s fantastic environment supports local people and in turn is cared for and valued. The Lizard peninsula, the most southerly part of the British mainland, is a place apart, where a combination of the mild maritime climate and complex and unique geology has produced an area with a distinctive character. It includes some habitats and species which are confined to The Lizard and others which are extremely rare nationally, because so much heathland elsewhere has been lost to forestry or agricultural improvement. The partnership is about collaborative and joint working and a large range of other organisations and individuals will also be invited to get involved if they wish as the projects develop. The Countryside Partnership Cornwall Wildlife Trust, the National Trust and Natural England are working together with the National Farmers Union, The Cornwall National Landscape and the University of Exeter in Cornwall form the core of the Partnership. They meet quarterly to co-ordinate existing land management and to undertake joint activity in the area which will assist in the achievement of the aims of the partnership. See About us for the broad outcomes of The Lizard Countryside Partnership.
