The NFU represents and supports a thriving agricultural industry. Nationally we represent 55,000 farm businesses and more than 150,000 individual members. Through our Countryside membership we have a further 40,000 members that share a passion for the countryside, whether they live, visit or work in a rural environment.

The South-west region is home to seven environmentally sensitive areas and two National Parks. Nearly all of these areas of environmental, ecological and cultural importance are farmed, and farmers, in increasing numbers, are formally taking on a stewardship role, maintaining, enhancing and even restoring habitats.

At a local level our office promotes farming, working with food outlets, farmers markets, butchers, processors etc. We assist individual members with all aspects related to running their business and we represent them on a variety of organisations, boards and committees.

We seek to reduce the impact that farming has on the environment while at the same time securing the production of sufficient high quality food to feed an ever increasing population.
