Moth event (day 1): Windmill Farm Nature Reserve

August 22 @ 8:00 pm 10:00 pm

This event is organised by Cornwall Butterfly Conservation (CBC), and is one of their Cornwall-wide series of visits to different sites and events over the summer. These trips are open to all, including accompanied children – whatever level of experience you have and whether or not you’re a member of Cornwall Butterfly Conservation. Please check the CBC website and social media prior to each field trip in case of cancellation due to weather or other complications.

Dougy Wright, Cornwall Wildlife Trust volunteer warden for Windmill Farm, is going to introduce us to the moths found on the reserve. You are welcome to join us on the evening of 22nd for the launch of this event when Dougy sets up his traps and stay to see the first moths arrive and/or join us the next morning in the Field Studies Centre at the reserve as Dougy opens the traps. After the moth event on the 23 August, Sue Allen of CBC will be happy to take you for a walk though the reserve where we would hope to see late summer butterflies, including the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary and the Grayling, and, around the pools, dragonflies, and damselflies. There is also the chance of seeing Marsh Fritillary larval webs. Meet at the car park by the windmill which is down a lane off the A3083 (SW693152; TR12 7LH; what3words, lamp.sparkle.prevented. Please note dogs are not allowed anywhere on this site. If you want to stay and walk around the reserve, please bring a packed lunch.
